Schumer again calls for dredging at Ogdensburg Harbour

Project Updates // March 13, 2017

US Senator Charles Schumer is again calling on federal officials to free up funding to dredge Ogdensburg Harbour, a move seen as key to increasing shipping capacity at the Port of Ogdensburg.

Last August, Senator Schumer traveled to Ogdensburg, where he met with Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority officials and publicly called for the federal government to prioritize the dredging.

At the time of his visit, the Army Corps of Engineers was still in the midst of a feasibility study that began in 2011.

Now Schumer has issued a press release pointing out that the Army Corps of Engineers has completed the long-awaited study on deepening a section of the St Lawrence River near the Ogdensburg port and urged the acting secretary of army civil works to approve an agreement with they Corps to release funding.

Last dredged in 1984, Ogdensburg Harbor is in need of deepening.
